They all held up really well (as in, weren't worn out at all by the time she grew out of them). If you're interested, take a whack at it again -- but not for 6-9 months! I think stencils might be fine on wovens but I don't see how to keep them from cracking on knits.Mikhaela Reidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02817367214920267825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-863792023187803515.post-87022568898514736092010-03-27T20:40:03.253-04:002010-03-27T20:40:03.253-04:00Oh, and I also think you should appliqué the whale...Oh, and I also think you should appliqué the whale. Uta and others, you are quite right that all this pressure probably isn't the best idea, it's just very Mikhaela of me to create all these self-imposed deadlines! I went to a thrift store today and picked up a few $2 maternity tops and skirts to take the pressure off, and I'll just finish what I can finish. I am indeed starting with the blouse, lsaspacey, since it's already muslined--that's my next post!Mikhaela Reidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02817367214920267825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-863792023187803515.post-37326557270693113302010-03-27T20:16:15.571-04:002010-03-27T20:16:15.571-04:00I have some nerve helping someone with their UFO&#...I have some nerve helping someone with their UFO's but here goes:

First, finish the Sencha blouse.

Then complete Mini-wardrobe in this order: knit top, cardigan, skirt, and dress. This way, if you run out of time you can substitute a much simpler dress for the contest (I fear the Parfait alterations will drive you crazy.)

Create the much needed bra AFTER April 14.

Put away the stencil paint for now. Cut the whale out of fused fabric and blanket stitch it on onesie, embroider on the other details. This project can easily be done while you're in recovery after baby is born.

Also perhaps you can farm out some or all of the baby dresses to sewing friends to finish for you?

Good luck!lsaspaceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17058968076601943527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-863792023187803515.post-39404099965879620022010-03-27T10:39:58.936-04:002010-03-27T10:39:58.936-04:00I know how you feel. BUT: Do you really want to spend the last (potentially) restful weeks before the baby comes putting so much pressure on yourself? I'd say skip the contest and the baby clothes (you'll probably be given more gifts than she can wear!) and focus on a couple of things that are really going to make your life easier, e.g. the bras. Just my two cents. Of course I'll enjoy reading if you decide to make all of them!Utahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06011335110798185030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-863792023187803515.post-71801273111567840312010-03-27T00:56:53.385-04:002010-03-27T00:56:53.385-04:00Bras aren't that hard. By the third you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Visit www.sewsassy.com for reasonably priced fabric and notions. eBay is a great source for stretch lace and I recently bought a lot of bra making supplies that will last me for the rest of my life for about $30.00 - good quality, too, in nude which I plan to custom dye in all shades of the rainbow 'cause you know as well as I do that everyone needs Just One More hobby, right? ;-)

You can buy a custom dyed bra kit (any size) from Sommerset's Etsy store, and check out her blog (http://hooksandwires.blogspot.com/) for tutorials.

Oh, yeah - knitting UFOs? I'll wait and see how yours ends up going!

And on the knitting -- I have an unfinished sweater that is...6 years old? Literally, almost completely done. But I haven't been able to knit since I got pregnant (back in 2004! with hyper-emesis which I attempted to knit through -- bad idea, can you say imprinting forever?) so it's in a bag languishing. So I do believe it's possible!Mikhaela Reidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02817367214920267825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-863792023187803515.post-8374687618554020792010-03-26T19:16:22.935-04:002010-03-26T19:16:22.935-04:00Sorry, I didn't finish typing. What I said was--oh, I'm not even going to COUNT my knitting UFOs--I have a cardigan for me that has been just inches from completion for a month, and a Baby Surprise Jacket for Cartoonist Baby that just needs some kind of fastening (but I'm terrified she'd choke on buttons!) and the half-finished socks and the one-third finished lacy Kidsilk Haze scarf... but I'm cutting myself slack on those due to my wrist problems.
